How often do I have to volunteer?
A:
The amount you volunteer is up to you! Often, our volunteers come in each week at the same time or times. Others come in every other week, and still others come in once a month, calling us the week before to let us know they are coming. You can volunteer as often or as little as fits into your schedule.
Do I need to be at Sharing Connections the whole day, from 9am-3pm?
A:
No, you do not need to volunteer from 9am-3pm, although some of our volunteers do work the whole day (with a break for lunch!). Usually, our volunteers work part of a day, such as 9am-Noon, Noon-3pm, or whatever other time frame that works for you!
What kind of volunteer tasks would I be doing?
A:
We will always try to find volunteer tasks that suit you. For those who like to be active, we have several warehouse positions involving taking in donations, sorting them, and putting them away in the warehouse. If you prefer more sit-down work, you can be an office volunteer doing data entry or mailings. If you prefer helping our client families pick out their furniture or returning client phone calls, we have client care positions. To learn more about all our volunteer opportunities, go to volunteer positions.
Do I have to have previous volunteer experience related to what I'd be doing at Sharing Connections?
A:
You do not need to have volunteer experience of any kind to be a Sharing Connections volunteer. Together, we will find a good volunteer position for you and give you any necessary training you need to do a good job!
What should I wear to volunteer in the warehouse?
A:
Warehouse volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes. The warehouse can get very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter, so dress accordingly!
Are children allowed to volunteer?
A:
Kids must be at least 13 years to volunteer without adult supervision. Children under 13 years can volunteer when accompanied by an adult and can work, at maximum, two hours. Younger children may have a hard time finding volunteer jobs appropriate for their age; younger children or children’s groups may enjoy doing a Sharing Connections service project instead.
Will I get trained to do my volunteer job?
A:
Yes, you will be educated on what to do when you come to volunteer at Sharing Connections. Plus, your first day of volunteering will include a volunteer orientation. Finally, there will always be friendly staff and other wonderful volunteers to answer your questions!
