Warehouse Positions:
Greeter – Meet and welcome donors at the garage door, help them unload their donations, and provide them with the appropriate handout materials.
Sorter – Sort through donated items and check that they are in good condition. Then, put the items on the shelves, so they are ready for families to take home!
Volunteers may also help us prepare for client families by cleaning/dusting furniture and household items, sweeping the warehouse, and vacuuming client waiting area.
Client Care Positions:
Client Aid – Assist Sharing Connections’ clients as they tour the warehouse to select their furniture. Client Aids do not assist families in loading their vehicles!
Referral and Information Specialist (RIS) – Meet with the client families to asses their needs and eligibility for basic community programs and services. RIS volunteers also transcribe phone messages and answer some phone calls.
Office Positions:
Data Entry - Help enter client information, volunteer hours, and more on a weekly or biweekly basis.
Mail Crew - Help stuff and label envelopes and newsletters for mass mailings.
Special Events Positions:
Committee Member – Help plan and prepare our fundraising events.
Special Event Helpers – Sell raffle tickets at the event, help with set up, or man registration tables.
Other Volunteer Jobs:
Truck Crew – Drive (or sit shotgun) on our truck to pick up donated furniture from the suburbs surrounding Downers Grove and unload it at our warehouse. To learn more about the truck pick up process, go to the how to donate page.
Group Volunteer Opportunities - Groups of up to 15 people can work in the warehouse. These groups must schedule their time in advance by contacting the volunteer coordinator. Groups can also volunteer by collecting items needed through a goods drive, or they can do a service project.
