For the first time ever, the golf outing was sold out – a tremendous milestone for this important fundraising event!
On that Monday, a full field of golfers enjoyed the challenge of the beautiful golf course at Ruffled Feathers – made all the more enticing by the ideal weather we were lucky to have that day. A buffet lunch was served beforehand, and our laid-back and fun 19th Hole Party afterward provided the perfect opportunity to mingle and reflect on the day, while partaking of cocktails and a wide variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres and small-plate fare.
A highlight of the evening was the Live Auction, where our talented Auctioneer from Sayre and Jones Auctioneers sold fabulous items, such as a private sail for 6 on Lake Michigan, luxury box tickets to a White Sox game and opportunities to play some of the nation’s (and world’s) most prestigious golf courses, including Baltusrol, The London Heritage Club, Rich Harvest, The Bear’s Club in Jupiter, Florida, and Erin Hills in Wisconsin. The auction created a great deal of excitement as our guests bid for these generously donated prizes. Our Silent Auction offered fun trips, sports and entertainment memorabilia, and still more golf! All of these items sold after some fast and furious bidding – raising even more funds for our mission.
In a new twist, a fun “Heads or Tails” game at the 19th Hole Party generated enough money to sponsor 8 new beds for the Good Night’s Sleep Program! The fast-paced game was a great way to significantly improve the lives of many individuals in our community.
We are delighted to report that the 2008 Golf Outing nearly matched the record level of funds raised in 2007 – a huge victory in this economy and demonstration of the dedicated and generous supporters we are blessed to have. Because of the generosity of our sponsors, donors and guests, economically disadvantaged families throughout the Chicago land area will have beds to sleep in, couches to rest upon, and tables to gather around for dinner at the end of a long day. |
