Beginning January 1, 2009, we re-assessed our clients’ greatest needs moving forward and as we face increasingly difficult space constraints, we will focus more on the items that are in highest demand (cribs, sofas, loveseats, tables, twin/full/queen mattress/box sets). This means in 2009, we will no longer be accepting major electronics (tvs, vcrs, dvd players and stereos) and large appliances (refrigerators, stoves, washers and dryers).
As we move into the digital age with the changeover from the old analog broadcasts to the new digital broadcasts, many of us will begin changing over from our old tv sets and vcrs to new high definition sets and high definition dvd players. Amazing as it may sound, the change in technology is also directly effecting how we serve our client families. With the increased number of donated televisions and vcrs, our space has been further constrained leaving limited space dedicated to furniture needed most by our client families.
For every large electronic item and appliance that does not work (especially televisions that require special disposal), it will require us to divert much needed program funds to pay for the disposal of these items.
In addition, since we are unable to test large appliances, we do not believe we are benefiting the client if they get home only to find an appliance may not work and must incure the cost to dispose of it. Appliances that we receive, that may not be suitable to give to families, must be disposed of costing Sharing Connections funds that could be better used to further our program services.
As a dedicated supporter of Sharing Connections Furniture Bank, we know that you understand that it is very important to us that we continue to provide our client families with usable, working, quality items they can proudly place in their home. We look forward to working with you in the new year and will continue to work hard to meet the needs of our client families.
