On May 1, 2009, the SCFB warehouse doubled in size when we broke through a brick wall to the space next door. We now have 9,000 square feet available to help us better serve our clients. This is quite a leap from our humble beginnings in Leeanne McGrath’s garage. However, the added space has already enabled us to accept a large donation of furniture from the La-Z-Boy furniture warehouse in Bolingbrook, Illinois. La-Z-Boy had held a promotion in which customers who bought new furniture could trade in their used sofas and chairs. Sharing Connections was grateful to accept the donation of 69 chairs, 23 sofas, and 9 loveseats for our clients. The furniture was gently used and in good condition.
The new space will primarily be used to store furniture and will enable us to serve more clients. Having more warehouse space will enable us to take advantage of future windfall donations like that from La-Z-Boy and its customers. As we grow in space, more volunteers will be needed, and the new space is likely to include a small lunchroom for volunteers and a small office space. |
